10 Verses & a Prayer for Mothers

Happy Mother’s Day, Mamas!

How are you all doing? Have things been crazy or what?! I have been thinking of all of you, wondering how you are doing with new routines and kids at home. It’s a lot and I pray God is meeting you right where you are at.

Since it’s Mother’s Day this week I wanted to share some of my favorite verses that God’s laid on my heart during my most difficult and most heartwarming times as a mother. God’s Word is often where I hear Him speak and I hope as you go to His Word that these may encourage you in a special way, just like they’ve encouraged me, and that there you will find Him speaking to you, too.

10 Verses to Encourage a Mother’s Heart

Exodus 3:14 “I Am who I Am.”

I’m so glad that God doesn’t just say, “Moses you got this! Your speech is totally fine. You’re enough! Just go and it’ll be fine.” Instead of reassuring Moses about his own adequacy, God points Moses to who God is. “I Am.” It’s not about how adequate we are for the role as Mom, but it’s about “I Am.”

Isaiah 40:11 “He tends His flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He leads those that have young.”

I turned to my Bible one day in tears, telling God I didn’t know what to do. I flipped to this verse and my spirit was flooded with peace. That’s us, Moms- we are the ones who have young and He will lead us.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Yes and amen. We can do it, Mamas! Christ is strengthening us.

John 13:7 “Jesus replied, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.'”

This verse reminds me that God’s ways are far above my own. He sees the whole picture and the plan for my kids and I. Right now it might seem crazy and not make sense, but He knows what He’s doing.

Psalm 61:2 “From the ends of the Earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”

No matter where we are, how unseen we might feel, or what troubles we are going through we can call out to God.

Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise and call her blessed.”

My hope.

Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”

A sobering reminder. We build our homes with our words and actions. Are my words and actions building up or tearing down?

Galatians 6:10 “Therefore, as we have opportunity, do good to all people, especially to those in the family of believers.”

We only have these loved ones for a little while. I know the days seem so long but it the span of life, it’s really such a short time. Changing diapers, washing dishes, kissing booboos are all part of doing good to our little ones.

Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.'”

As Moms we do a lot. It can be overwhelming and scary to be responsible for these little ones and to do all the things it takes to care for them. This is the verse I’m reminded of whenever I feel overwhelmed and afraid.

Judges 6:12 “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

It’s a battle. Thank God He is with us. And He is mighty in us. Keep battling, Mamas. We are mighty warriors with God on our side!

A Prayer for Mamas

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for being with us and loving us so much. Your compassion for mothers is amazing and humbling. Father, You know what each woman is facing in her life today. You know her struggles and challenges. You know that life has been particularly challenging lately and many of us are facing uncertainty and hardship. Please come alongside each of us and grant us Your peace and strength. Encourage us as we go about our days and help us to have open eyes to see You show up for us each day. Remind us of Your truth when we go about our day and help us to raise these children to know You. Give us wisdom when we don’t know what to do. When the day feels overwhelming, please grant us rest and a special dose of Your presence. Father, I lift up each woman reading and ask that You encourage and guide her. I pray You would help her to know she is loved by Almighty God and that You are mighty in her. If she feels like she is failing, please give her a special word of encouragement and love. Lead her to You, Father. You have so much love for us and I thank You for this special gift of motherhood. I pray we are able to enjoy it and cherish these moments. Help us to stay positive and shine Your light to our children. Help us as we navigate each day and new challenges that come our way, knowing without a shadow of a doubt that You are right here with us and we can rest in that knowledge and not be afraid. We love You and praise You.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
