Do you ever want to worship the Lord but you don’t know what to say? Your mind ever draw a blank and you run out of words even though your heart is willing to praise God?

You can’t see me but I’m raising my hand, too.

The ABC’s of Praise

One way that I’ve learned to combat this is to use my ABC’s. I learned this practical idea of worship in Linda Dillow’s book “Satisfy My Thirsty Soul.”

The idea is simple: worship God with a word that begins with each letter of the alphabet, beginning with the letter “A.” So for example you could say, “God you are the Alpha and Omega, you are Amazing.” You could keep going, worshiping Him until you run out of words that begin with the letter “A.” Then you move onto “B”, then “C”, until you get to “Z.”

Here are some ideas to get you started:

A – Almighty, Alpha and Omega, Awesome

B – Beautiful, Bright Morning Star, Blessed

C – Creator, Christ, Chain Breaker

D – Deliverer, Daddy, Defender

E – Eternal, Everlasting,

F – Father, Faithful, Fortress

G – God, Good Good Father, Good Shepherd, Great

H – Heavenly Father, Healer, Holy

I – Immanuel, Intercessor

J – Just, Jesus

K – King of Kings

L – Lord of Lords, Loving, Living Water

M – Master, Messiah

N – New, Near

O – Our Hope, Our Peace, Omniscient, Omnipotent

P – Potter, Prince of Peace

Q – El Qanna (Exodus 34:14)

R – Resurrected King, Redeemer

S – Savior, Sanctuary

T – Truth, Teacher

U – Unfailing Love

V – Victorious

W – Worthy, Wonderful Counselor

X – eXtra Loving, eXcellent (get creative with x, y, and z! 🙂 )

Y – Your God, Your Redeemer, Yahweh

Z – Zealous

My favorite way to do this is when I’m walking. I just start going through the alphabet and it keeps my mind on the Lord, rather than on worries or fears that like to plague my mind. You could journal these out or draw them out, find corresponding verses…get creative! 🙂
