April Focus, Book Club, and Challenge

Hello friends! It’s time for our April focus and book club pick!

We have been reading one book a month that corresponds with our topic, or focus, for the month. These themes are ones that we want to grow in or learn more about.

Here is our focus and book choice for April!

April Focus: The Resurrection of Jesus and Space Exploration

Okay, hang with me here. I know space and the resurrection really aren’t two things you would automatically think go together but in this month’s book you will see exactly how the two things merge and you’ll be blown away. Since it’s Easter month, I wanted us to focus on the resurrection but sometimes it’s so easy to kind of glaze over when we read, or talk about, something so familiar. And honestly I’m sure we’ve all sat in pews, listened to sermons, and watched movies about the resurrection so we know. We know the story and yet I think this month we will know it in a new and life-changing way.

April Challenge: There will be two challenges this month! Check out the April Challenge section below.

April Book Club Choice: “The Last Supper on the Moon: NASA’S 1969 Lunar Voyage, Jesus Christ’s Bloody Death and the Fantastic Quest to Conquer Inner Space” by Levi Lusko

April Bonus: Free worksheets and flashcards to help you memorize Psalm 8 and a phone wallpaper of Psalm 8:3-4.

April Challenge:

Challenge 1: Observe the moon. Take a few minutes each night to look at the moon. What kind of moon is it? How much light is it giving tonight? As you read this month’s book, meditate on what you’ve learned about the moon and space. At the end of the month ask yourself: Have my thoughts changed on how I view the cross and the resurrection? How can the moon be a nightly reminder of what God has done for me?

If you’d like to have a little fun and continue the moon theme, check out this Moon Photo Challenge Bingo from NASA’s website. It would be a great way to include your kiddos! Find it HERE.

Challenge 2: Memorize Psalm 8. Let’s memorize Psalm 8 together! Later this month I will post some free worksheets, flashcards, and a phone wallpaper so that we can memorize this passage together. Scripture memory is so important (and not something I’ve been very good at!) so I am excited for us to do this together! What do you say?!

April Book Club:

This month we are reading “The Last Supper on the Moon” by Levi Lusko. Y’all know I am a big fan of Levi Lusko and listen to his sermons regularly, and I am super excited to read his latest book. Using Buzz Aldrin’s communion meal on the moon as a launching point, this book will take us through the “I Am” statements of Jesus, the letters to the churches in Revelations, the way to the cross and the resurrection of Jesus, and the encouragement to conquer the deep and dark mysteries of our own lives (our inner space) to live with purpose and hope. Not gonna lie, it’s a long book and it will be a good amount of reading each week but I think we will find ourselves enthralled in this journey!

TO DO:

*Purchase your copy of “The Last Supper on the Moon” by Levi Lusko so you can begin reading.

*The first week’s questions will be up on the blog on Friday, April 8th. The schedule will be as follows:

Week 4: Chapters 18 through 24
