Carry You There

I am five years old, in my Daisy Girl scout uniform, tired and spent. We are tired little girls who just paraded around our entire town. My house is just a block away but when I see my Mom, coming to pick me up and take me home, I immediately ask her to carry me there.

Sometimes we are tired and just need to be carried.

I’m so glad God understands this. In Isaiah 46:4, He says:

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

God was telling his people that the idols they were worshipping were going to let them down. The idols were gods that were heavy and burdensome and had to be carried. They would be stolen and destroyed if an enemy invaded their camp. Though the gods were made of gold or silver, they were heavy and their weight made them difficult to transport. These gods couldn’t deliver anyone or save anybody.

God reminds his people that He isn’t like those gods. He has carried them, even from the womb, and will continue to carry them, even unto death.

Isn’t this a wonderful thought?! Though we will change- we’ll age and our bodies will fail- God doesn’t change. He is the same God who carried us into this life, will carry us through it, and carry us out of it and into His home.

I wonder if there are any idols that you might have in your life? Things that you thought were going to protect you or help you but are really just burdens. Perhaps there are financial decisions that were made that need to be changed or thought through again? Are you carrying something that you need to let go of? Remember that God is the one who does the carrying. He has promised and His promises are true.

If you are feeling worn out and tired, if you are already spent even though it’s only the second month into the new year, just remember that He can, and will, carry you there. No matter what we face this year, we can be sure that our God is carrying us through. He has in the past and He will continue to in the future, today and every day.
