December Focus, Book Club, and Challenge

December Focus: Christmas

Don’t you just love Christmas?

I do. But as much as I love the Christmas lights, the tree, and the presents I want my focus to be on the reason for the season: Jesus.

Because of Jesus we know God loves us.

Because of Jesus we know God is with us.

Because of Jesus we know God is for us.

This year I don’t want to miss this. I want to know this gift of Jesus more than anything else, to feel the peace and joy that come from God Himself.

We can know it. We can know this gift that was sent on Christmas to die on Easter so that we might enter in to our Father’s house. Let’s not miss out this year. Let’s have eyes wide open to the miracle that is Christmas and I hope this month’s book club choice helps and encourages you to do so.

December Challenge: Write a thank you note to God for the gift He gave us of Jesus

December Challenge:

This month can become so focused on presents and gift-giving that it can be difficult to remember that Jesus is the best gift ever! This month our challenge will be to take a few minutes and write a thank you note to God. Thank Him for the gift of Jesus, for His love, and for always being near. Think about what it would be like if there were no baby Jesus in the manger and no plan for redemption. Thank Him for His most precious gift.

December Book Club:

This month we are reading “The Women of Christmas” by Liz Curtis Higgs. In this book we will explore the stories of Elizabeth, Anna, and Mary and discover the Christmas season in a new way. What would it have been like to be Mary, engaged to marry and expecting the Son of God? Or to be Elizabeth, barren for years but continually expectant for the Lord to work? And Anna, a widow who longed for the Messiah? In her storyteller’s voice, Liz will take us on a journey, much like she did in “The Women of Easter,” as we step into the shoes of the women who were there for this special occasion that changed the world.

I know Christmas is a busy season, but I hope you will steal away with this book and be encouraged by the stories of these women! And through their stories, may your own faith and wonder of the Savior grow this Christmas season.

TO DO:
