10 Verses to Pray Over Your Husband

Ever struggle to know where to begin praying for your husband? If I’m totally honest, when I start to pray for my husband I start to pray in a selfish way ๐Ÿ™ wanting God to change things about him. I’m still working on not doing this because-surprise surprise!- it’s usually me that needs to change. Raise your hand if you feel me!

Knowing that prayer for one another is important and life changing, I especially love to go to the Word of God when I’m not sure what to pray. Will you join me in praying Scripture over our husbands? Here are ten verses, along with a prayer prompt, to get us started in prayer over our husbands.

His speech

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

“Father God, help my husband’s speech to be wholesome and helpful to build others up and be a benefit to all who listen.”

His work

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23

“Lord, I pray that You would help my husband’s hands and heart to work for You no matter what he does. I pray he would know that he is working for You as he goes to work in the morning. I pray You would help remind him how important his work is because it is for You. Encourage him as he labors and remind him of Your presence with him.”

His Fatherhood

“Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26

“Lord, I pray that my husband has such a solid relationship with You that he would run to You as a fortress. I pray the fear and reverence he holds for You would be a great example to our children that they also may know You as their refuge. Thank You, Lord.”

His joy

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

“Father God, I pray that You would fill my husband with all hope and joy and peace as he trusts in You. I pray he would overflow with joy and that it would be contagious to all people by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

His spiritual leadership

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

“Lord, I pray You would help my husband to bring up our children in the discipline and instruction of Your word. I pray he would be patient with them and compassionate and not discipline out of anger and not provoke them to anger as well.”

His health

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” 3 John 1:2

“Father, I pray that my husband would enjoy good health so that he might live long with us. I pray that this health would be over his mind, body, and soul. Thank You.”

His Wisdom

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” Psalm 111:10

“Father, I pray my husband would follow You and Your Word and understand how to live this out. I pray he would fear and revere You and it would guide his walk and understanding.”

His integrity

His rest

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

“Father, I pray rest for my husband. Rest from his labor and rest for his soul, Father. Thank You for the gift of rest and for Your light yoke. Help him to exchange any heavy burden for your light yoke. Thank you, Lord.”
