Bible Verses on Your Identity in Christ (+ a Free Printable!)

I think we all struggle with wondering who we are and what we are made for. In “You are Not Enough (and that’s okay!)”, the author makes the statement, “The world’s answers to these questions is “You.” You define your identity, purpose, value, your truth. Jesus’ answer is “Me” (pg. 26). What does the Word tell us about our identity? Today, we are going to take a look at 10 verses that speak to this question.

You are Chosen

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9

You are a Child of God

“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Romans 8:15-17

You are His Workmanship

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

You are Rejoiced Over

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

You are Set Free

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

You are Reconciled

“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” Romans 5:10-11

You are Redeemed

“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14

You are Gifted

“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith…” Romans 12:6

You are New

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

You are Taken Care Of

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

You are who God says you are! Fill your heart with truth about who you are. Let go of the cult of self-affirmation and embrace the good news that you are not enough and that’s okay! Let’s God’s Word saturate your mind and answer back with scripture when doubts arise.
