August Focus, Book Club & Challenge

August is all about prayer! Do you ever struggle with knowing what to pray? Or do you get distracted and sidetracked when you try to pray? I am totally raising my hand right now! Prayer is something we all know we should do and yet we still struggle. Or sometimes it seems we pray and pray and yet our prayers are just hitting the ceiling. We wonder: Is God even listening? Will He even answer? If you’re frustrated with your prayer life, need to step it up, or want to try again join us this month as we focus on prayer.

August Challenge

This month’s challenge is to start a prayer journal (or binder). It can be as simple or as extravagant as you want. Choose functionality over beauty but get as creative as you want! Some ideas to include in your journal:

  • Scriptures to pray
  • Divided sections (i.e. one section for each person on your prayer list – kids, spouse, etc. or one section for each day of the week)
  • Prayers from others that bless you (i.e. prayers from a prayer book)
  • Blank pages to write down your prayers
  • Blank pages to write down answers to prayers

August Book Club

This month we are reading “Praying Women: How to Pray When You Don’t Know What to Say” by Sheila Walsh. I’ve heard so many good things about this book! Sheila Walsh is a speaker, author, Bible teacher, and television host. A native of Scotland and a wife and mama, she is real and doesn’t shy away from difficult topics. She often speaks of how “God is close to the floor.” I just know this book is going to be powerful and life-changing!
