Fear & Courage

I have loved this month’s book choice “I Choose Brave.” It is totally changing my view of what it means to truly be brave and have courage. I’m a person who does put her hope in outcomes and prays that “things go well.” My hope has not been rooted in God in the right way but rather in a genie in a bottle sort of way. I’ve found that instead of having a proper fear of the Lord, I’ve feared what difficult things I might have to go through. I’ve tried to live fearlessly – to suck it up and do the thing or to not be afraid at all but it didn’t work. It doesn’t work because my eyes are on myself and not on the Lord. It’s a weak faith because it’s so fragile – a situation can change, the ground I’m putting my hope in can crumble and fall and I’m left more afraid than ever.

I wanted to share these scriptures to help remind me, and you, that we can have a healthy and necessary fear of the Lord. We can put our circumstances in the proper light and lock eyes on Him. We can know what it truly means to be courageous and choose brave – not by our strength but in the One who is our strength. It’s in knowing Him that we fear Him and align everything else in its proper place.
